Le génie du mal [The genius of evil, aka; Lucifer]; Guillaume Geefs
“The statue was originally a commission for Geefs’ younger brother Joseph, who completed it in 1842 and installed it the following year. It generated controversy at once and was criticized for not representing a Christian ideal. The cathedral administration declared that “this devil is too sublime.” The local press intimated that the work was distracting the “pretty penitent girls” who should have been listening to the sermons.” [x]

> Make sculpture of the devil
> No this sculpture is too hot for church
> Make another one
> It’s even hotter
Nicolas Jolly is a French artist working with black ink. Black and white allows him to bring additional emotion to the scene by increasing the set of chiaroscuro. There is a large concern in the compositions of his drawings. The technique he uses,”fingerprint”, allows him to guide the eye of the observer through the various elements of the scene compositions. All convolutions bring dynamism and speed, amplifying the intense and dramatic effect. The subject is anime, dance and grows. It can accentuate a detail in the design and target emotion to convey.

I really like these three decorative installations for a bar/restaurant in Amsterdam.
To achieve the 3D effect, the lettering was cut out of wood with a CNC router, with shaper details laser cut.
The letters were given a white undercoat before spray painting. They were then assembled onto a backboard.
Awesome wooden type installations created by Zender for a bar/restaurant in Amsterdam.

" New Scientist - Bloody Mary Illusion"
"Two illustrations for this weeks New Scientist. A suitably creepy halloweenesque piece on research into the eerie visions that can occur when staring into a mirror.
'So professor, we just popped round to see how your research was going? what have you been up to over the last few months? you've been what? you had some people over to stare in a mirror until they saw scary faces? I see. Why has all of your litmus paper got smiley faces on?'
I am being silly! The experiments in fact have some fascinating results confirming the perception of faces (even our own) is not a stable thing shedding light on the volatile process of self identity and even having use in the treatment of post traumatic stress and schizophrenia.”
